1. Grandma Seiko vs. Turbo Granny
On a television broadcast, Momo’s grandmother, Seiko, was doing a psychic reading on Shoma, a popular Japanese idol. Seiko claimed that Shoma was twenty-seven years old, married, and had a child.
However, Shoma flatly denied this on air, insisting he was only twenty and still single. As a result, the crew of the Dodoria Santa show dismissed Seiko’s reading as a massive failure, believing her to be completely off the mark.
Later, Seiko took a taxi home. Upon arriving, she found the Turbo Granny about to attack an unconscious Momo lying on the ground. Seiko immediately threw a warding nail; it struck the Turbo Granny, sending the spirit flying into a nearby water-filled ditch.
Seiko then drew a circle in the dirt and stood inside it, with the warding nail planted firmly within its boundary. When an evil spirit like the Turbo Granny tried to attack her and enter the circle, the entity’s body instantly burst into flames.
The Turbo Granny leaped away, but unfortunately for her, she landed directly inside another circle Seiko had drawn earlier. However, the warding nail for that specific circle was planted outside the line. As a result, if the Turbo Granny tried to step out of the ring, her body would instantly catch fire.
Seiko grabbed a baseball bat and began ruthlessly beating the trapped Turbo Granny. Desperate, the spirit warned her that if she burned to death, the boy she was currently possessing—Okarun—would die along with her.
2. Momo Apologizes to Seiko
Momo woke up and immediately sprinted into the living room, where she found her grandmother casually watching the TV show Bakatono. Momo frantically asked, “Did you see Okarun?!”
Seiko plainly replied that she had just exterminated an evil spirit. Horrified, Momo demanded to know what it looked like. Instead of answering, Seiko shot back, “Didn’t you say you don’t believe in ghosts? Didn’t you call me a fake spirit medium?”
Momo dropped to her knees, tearfully apologizing for saying she didn’t believe in ghosts and for calling Seiko a fraud. Satisfied, Seiko told Momo to go check the main shrine in the courtyard.
Panicking, Momo rushed outside, consumed by anxiety. She blamed herself for Okarun’s tragic fate—getting possessed by the Turbo Granny—and was terrified that he was already dead, utterly obliterated by Seiko.
3. Okarun is Still Alive
Momo threw open the shrine doors, only to find Okarun sitting quietly inside, munching on an onigiri. Okarun breathed a sigh of relief at seeing her alive, admitting he thought she had died when he lost control and transformed into the Turbo Granny.
Without a word, Momo slammed the doors shut, leaving Okarun alone inside. A few seconds later, however, a wave of sheer frustration washed over her. She kicked the shrine door and yelled, “You’re still alive, you idiot!” Despite her outburst, she couldn’t hide her relief. She finally sat down quietly in front of the doors.
Seiko walked over and explained that the Turbo Granny’s curse would remain dormant as long as Okarun stayed inside the shrine. Momo explained that the Turbo Granny had stolen Okarun’s “sausage,” and they had to get it back to break the curse. She declared that this was why she felt totally responsible and was determined to help him.
Momo also revealed that her esper powers had awakened when she went to a hotspot to encounter UFOs and aliens. Seiko replied coldly, dismissing UFOs and aliens as impossible nonsense.
4. Seiko Warns of the Turbo Granny’s Danger
Seiko warned Momo that dealing with the Turbo Granny was a massive headache. The entity was a modern yokai known to sprint up to 100 kilometers per hour, rampaging all across the country. Seiko explained that the Turbo Granny had long resided in the haunted tunnel, which was home to the most powerful bound spirit in the region. She concluded that the Turbo Granny had merged with this bound spirit, amplifying her power.
Seiko urged Momo to stay out of it for her own safety. She knew Momo wasn’t directly involved and advised her to just walk away from Okarun’s mess. However, Momo confessed that whenever she felt conflicted, she always asked herself, “What would Ken Takakura do?” She knew the answer: Ken Takakura would help Okarun without a second thought. And that was exactly what she intended to do.
Seiko teased Momo, pointing out that she clearly had a massive crush on Okarun. Knocking on the shrine door, Seiko jokingly asked Okarun how it felt to hear Momo’s confession of love. Momo frantically clarified that the “Ken Takakura” she meant was the famous celebrity actor, not the nickname she had given Okarun.
5. How to Defeat the Turbo Granny
Seiko explained that the Turbo Granny was incredibly arrogant about her running speed. If provoked with mockery or insults, she would definitely take the bait. Seiko further noted that the bound spirit in the haunted tunnel was anchored within Shono City’s limits. Therefore, she advised Momo to lure the Turbo Granny out of Shono City to sever her connection and weaken her, giving Momo and Okarun a fighting chance to defeat her.
Momo asked if Seiko couldn’t just help by placing a warding talisman in the haunted tunnel to incinerate the Turbo Granny. However, Seiko admitted she couldn’t fight the entity directly.
Seiko explained that her barrier techniques relied entirely on borrowing the power of the local deity residing in Kamigoe City, where she lived. If she stepped outside Kamigoe, her powers wouldn’t work. She added that every region had its own local deity, and the situation ultimately boiled down to whether one was fighting on “home turf” or as an uninvited guest in someone else’s territory.
Seiko emphasized that the absolute only way to defeat the Turbo Granny was to beat her in a footrace. With that settled, she opened the shrine doors and let Okarun out.
Seiko then instructed Okarun to practice sprinting with everything he had to build his stamina, and told Momo to focus on strengthening her esper abilities. Promising to train them both the next day, Seiko ordered them to go to sleep, as it was getting late.
6. How to Use Auras
The next morning, Seiko was watching the news, which reported a breaking scandal: Shoma, the famous idol, had been exposed for having a child out of wedlock, and his real age was confirmed to be twenty-seven. Seiko smiled, delighted that her psychic reading had been spot-on and not a mistake at all.
Meanwhile, as Okarun was doing his sprinting drills, he suddenly felt the urge to poop. Seiko told him to go ahead, but Momo pointed out a critical issue: if she broke visual contact with him, she wouldn’t be able to suppress the curse in his body. In short, Momo had to keep watching Okarun while he did his business to keep him from mutating.
Seiko casually suggested Momo go to the bathroom with him. Momo was thoroughly disgusted by the idea, and Okarun was equally horrified at being watched.
Seiko then asked how Momo was actively suppressing the cursed energy. Momo explained that she controlled a green aura, which she shaped into two spectral hands. Using these aura hands, she crushed the black cursed energy, shrinking it down so it couldn’t spread through Okarun’s body. That was how she kept the curse contained.
7. Learning to Feel the Aura
Momo also revealed that she could see the auras of everything around her, each emitting a different color. Demonstrating her power, she used her invisible aura to lift a pebble, levitating and tossing it around at will as if she were physically holding it.
Momo confessed that when her esper abilities first awakened, her power had been staggering—whatever she imagined became reality, making her feel invincible. Now, however, her power had drastically waned, leaving her only able to manipulate auras.
Seiko then instructed Momo to practice controlling her aura with her eyes closed. Momo protested, arguing it was impossible because if she couldn’t see Okarun, his curse would run rampant. Seiko advised her to rely on her other five senses—not just her sight—such as using her sense of touch to feel the aura’s presence.
Momo finally closed her eyes and tried to rely on her sense of touch. She could feel the chilling cold radiating from the cursed energy. Unfortunately, because she hadn’t yet mastered suppressing the curse by feeling alone, Okarun instantly transformed back into the Turbo Granny.
8. Momo’s Sealed Power
In the end, Okarun had to go to the toilet to poop accompanied by Momo, who peeked from behind the door to keep his curse in check. The entire humiliating ordeal left Okarun thoroughly mortified.
Meanwhile, Seiko noted that the invincible esper power Momo experienced upon her initial awakening was most likely sealed away. Unlocking it, Seiko theorized, would require slow and steady training—though no one knew exactly how long that would take.
9. The Turbo Granny’s Threat
Suddenly, the Turbo Granny’s spirit materialized inside the bathroom, instantly turning the room’s aura a sinister, blood red. The Turbo Granny spoke exclusively to Momo, as Seiko and Okarun were left completely paralyzed, frozen in place like statues.
Momo demanded to know what the Turbo Granny was doing. The entity explained that her curse was highly contagious, using Okarun’s body as a conduit. She could curse and kill anyone simply by using Okarun’s line of sight.
The Turbo Granny then demanded that Momo bring Okarun to the haunted tunnel tonight. If she refused, the spirit threatened to slaughter everyone in Momo’s household by transmitting the curse through Okarun. With her brutal ultimatum delivered, the Turbo Granny vanished as abruptly as she had appeared.
Okarun and Seiko snapped out of their paralysis, shocked to find their noses suddenly bleeding. Staring at the blood-drenched talismans scattered around her house, Seiko demanded Momo explain exactly what had just happened.
10. Ready to Fight
That night, Okarun and Momo suited up in combat gear specifically designed to ward off evil spirits. Seiko prayed for their safety. She hugged Momo tightly, sternly ordering her not to die while facing the Turbo Granny.
On the train ride there, Okarun felt deeply embarrassed by his eccentric, bulky outfit, acutely aware of the stares from everyone around them. He asked why Momo had decided to take the train. Momo explained that the haunted tunnel was too far away to reach by bike, and she didn’t want them burning through their stamina before they even arrived at the battlefield.
Momo also revealed her true motivation: she would never forgive the Turbo Granny for hurting her grandmother, Seiko. She fully intended to beat the Turbo Granny to a pulp.
With that, Momo peeled off her spirit-warding combat gear, revealing the stylish, trendy outfit she had been wearing underneath the entire time. She shoved the bulky gear into the backpack Okarun was carrying. According to Momo, a girl’s battle gear always had to look fashionable.
