1. Jiji is Impressed
Okarun, Momo, and Jiji brought Hana to Seiko’s house. All three of them immediately bowed low before Seiko, desperately pleading with her to let Hana stay. Although initially reluctant, Seiko finally caved and agreed to take Hana in.
Momo explained that Taro had returned to the science lab at school and would only sneak out at night to visit Hana.
Seiko then casually asked about Taro’s “golden meatball.” Momo clarified that it was just a gold Christmas ornament attached to Taro’s crotch. With that settled, Seiko began preparing a meal and ordered Momo to set the table.
Watching her work, Jiji praised Momo’s incredible esper powers, admitting he finally understood why Seiko had entrusted her to cleanse the curse on his house. He also complimented Okarun’s transformed state, calling it incredibly cool and wishing he had superpowers of his own.
2. Fighting for Attention
As Jiji stepped up to help Momo carry the dining table, he gently picked a speck of dust out of her hair, making Momo blush. Unable to stand their sudden intimacy, Okarun moved in a flash, pretending to pick nonexistent dust out of Momo’s hair as well.
Confused, Momo asked, “Okarun, what’s wrong?”
Okarun firmly declared that he would never back down and was fully prepared to fight.
“Fight what?” Momo asked, utterly bewildered.
Okarun grabbed the table from Momo’s hands and set it down. Humming the opening theme to the anime Slam Dunk, he began to sing, “My eyes are only on you… ever since the day we first met.”
Catching on, Jiji joined the performance, belting out, “I want to scream, I love you…”
The two boys danced around Momo, who just stood there, completely baffled by their absurd rivalry.
Seiko interrupted the spectacle to remind Momo, “Don’t forget, you’re staying over at Jiji’s house this weekend.”
Momo replied that she was bringing Okarun along to help cleanse the curse—the exact reason Jiji was forced to stay at their house in the first place. Okarun instantly perked up. “Let’s go! We’ll clear that curse out so Jiji can finally go back home!”
3. Taro’s Determination
Late at night at the school, Taro sprinted furiously down the hallway, terrifying four students doing a test of courage. Without slowing down, he smashed straight through a glass window and plummeted to the street below. Burning with the desire to see Hana, Taro ran as fast as his plastic legs could carry him—only to be violently struck by a truck, shattering his anatomical body into pieces.
Back in the yard, Momo sat with Hana. Yawning, she complained that it was almost 4:00 AM and Taro still hadn’t shown up. When morning finally broke, Taro appeared, immediately hugging Hana from behind.
“I love you, Taro,” Hana whispered.
Momo, who had fallen asleep in the yard, woke up just in time to witness their embrace. She groaned, “Why didn’t you guys wake me up when he got here?”
Meanwhile, Jiji hadn’t slept at all. He sat meditating, kept awake by the unsettling feeling that a ghost’s presence in the house was the root of his insomnia.
4. The Train Ride
On the train ride to Jiji’s house, Okarun couldn’t stand watching Momo and Jiji sitting together, happily chatting away. In a desperate bid for attention, he practically shouted, “Let me tell you about the Tsuchinoko!”
To his surprise, both Jiji and Momo leaned in, eager to hear the story.
Jiji mentioned that his village had a 200-year-old shrine dedicated to worshipping a giant snake, known as the Tsuchinoko Shrine. Intrigued, Momo immediately asked if they could visit it.
Okarun then opened his book, explaining that there were also shrines in Japan dedicated to worshipping mummified Kappas, and that shrines honoring the Uma bird weren’t uncommon either. Jiji was hooked. He took the book from Okarun, amazed that Kappas might actually exist.
Jiji then confessed he believed in the Loch Ness Monster. Okarun pointed out that the famous photo of Nessie had been proven a hoax. However, Okarun casually added that he had actually seen a real Nessie while fighting the Serpians—because the aliens had brought one to Earth. Thrilled, Jiji declared he would love to see Nessie in person.
Okarun was stunned—this was the first time he had effortlessly held a conversation with someone other than Momo. Jiji praised Okarun’s extensive occult knowledge and eagerly asked if they could be good friends, just like Okarun and Momo were.
5. A Mysterious Threat Watches
Okarun, Jiji, and Momo finally arrived in Jiji’s town. Momo was surprised to see the area packed with hot spring resorts. Jiji explained that it tied into his father’s work; as a professor, his dad was researching a volcano at a nearby university. The volcano had erupted 200 years ago but had remained dormant and safe ever since.
As the trio walked by, a group of elderly shopkeepers watched them intently from a distance.
Because the town was nestled in the mountains, Jiji led Okarun and Momo up three consecutive, grueling flights of stairs to reach his house. By the time they reached his yard, Momo and Okarun collapsed, completely out of breath and utterly exhausted.
Jiji asked Momo if she could feel or see any strange auras around the house. Panting heavily, Momo ignored the question to praise Jiji’s stamina, noting he barely looked tired. She then confirmed that, so far, she didn’t sense anything supernatural. Dying of thirst and desperate for rest, she urged Jiji to open the door.
Meanwhile, hidden behind the trees across from the house, a group of elderly men and women secretly gathered. They watched Momo, Okarun, and Jiji with terrifying, sinister smiles.
6. No Ghosts
Inside, Momo, Okarun, and Jiji thoroughly inspected every corner of the house. Finding nothing, they sat down in the living room. Momo confirmed that she couldn’t sense even a trace of strange aura.
“You guys don’t believe me, do you?” Jiji asked quietly.
Momo quickly reassured him that she did. After all, every exorcist who had visited the house had confirmed it was highly dangerous. Momo theorized that the ghost was currently hiding—just like the Turbo Granny had hidden inside Okarun’s body.
She explained that if a ghost’s power was weak, it would be harder to detect, making it easier for them to conceal themselves. On the bright side, that meant a weaker ghost would be much easier to defeat. Impressed by Momo’s expertise, Jiji praised her and went to make some juice.
Momo told Okarun to get some rest since the ghost would likely strike at night. She announced she was heading to the hot springs and ordered Okarun to get along with Jiji while she was gone, promising to return later that afternoon.
A moment later, Jiji returned with the juice, only for Okarun to tell him Momo had already left.
7. Jealousy
Out in the yard, Okarun and Jiji kicked a soccer ball back and forth. As they passed the ball, they started talking about all the things they liked about Momo. Naturally, the conversation sparked underlying tension, as both boys clearly harbored feelings for her.
Their jealousy quickly flared up. What started as passing the ball turned into aggressive tackling, both fiercely fighting for possession as if the ball itself were Momo.
During the ensuing scuffle, Jiji managed to put Okarun in a rear naked chokehold. As he struggled, Okarun accidentally noticed something strange: a protruding structural addition on the outside of Jiji’s house that he hadn’t seen before. He quickly tapped out and pointed it out to Jiji.
Jiji let go and followed his gaze. They both realized that, right next to the front door, the exterior clearly showed an extension to the building—yet there was no corresponding room on the inside.
8. Momo is Attacked
At the hot springs, Momo soaked in the water, wondering if Okarun would actually manage to bond with Jiji, his very first male friend. Feeling a bit dizzy from the heat, she decided it was time to get out. However, she found it strange that the towering walls surrounding the open-air bath completely blocked any view of the outside world.
Suddenly, four elderly men walked into the bath area, causing Momo to freeze. The men casually remarked how unusual it was to see a young girl alone in a mixed bath. Horrified, Momo finally realized she was in a co-ed hot spring.
The four men waded into the water, stopping right in front of her. Without warning, their demeanor shifted into something deeply unsettling as they prepared to attack. Momo immediately went on high alert, raising her hands to unleash her esper powers.
But one of the men moved faster. He violently grabbed her arm and dragged her under, fully submerging her in the scalding water.
9. The Horror Room
Okarun and Jiji hurried back inside to inspect the interior wall corresponding to the exterior protrusion. Bizarrely, it was just a solid wall; there was absolutely no room there, despite the clear architectural extension outside.
When Jiji knocked on the wall, Okarun pressed his ear against it, noting that it sounded completely hollow. Jiji grew deeply suspicious, convinced this hidden space had something to do with his parents’ sudden, severe illness.
Even though it was a rental house, Jiji grabbed a hammer and smashed a hole straight through the drywall. What Okarun and Jiji saw through the breach left them utterly horrified—hidden behind the wall was a massive, secret room entirely plastered with thousands of warding talismans.
