1. Suspended Animation
Zabuza lay motionless on the ground, with Haku sitting quietly by his side. Suddenly, the assassin jolted awake from his suspended animation.
Haku explained that had he not intervened immediately, Zabuza would have undoubtedly died at Kakashi’s hands. He warned that the aftereffects of the death-like state would severely restrict Zabuza’s movements for a week. Undeterred, Zabuza firmly declared that their next move would be to eliminate Kakashi.
Meanwhile, at Tazuna’s house, Kakashi awoke in bed. He pointed out a glaring inconsistency to Team 7 and Tazuna: tracker ninja typically dispose of their target’s corpse on the spot. Because of this, Kakashi deduced that Zabuza was still alive, having merely been placed in a temporary state of suspended animation by the tracker’s needles.
2. The Hero
Shortly after, Inari entered the room and ran to hug Tazuna. With a gloomy expression, the young boy grimly predicted that Kakashi and Team 7 were doomed to die, insisting that no one could defeat Gato.
Naruto loudly fired back, declaring himself a hero who would one day become the Hokage of Konoha; to him, losing to Gato was impossible.
However, Inari coldly shot back that there were no heroes in this world before excusing himself to his room. Frustrated, Naruto marched over to scold him, but peeked through the doorway and saw Inari in tears. Seeing the boy crying silently as he stared at a photograph of his late stepfather, Naruto quietly backed away, abandoning his anger.
3. Chakra Control Training
Out in the woods, Kakashi hobbled on a pair of crutches, announcing that he would train Team 7 to prepare them for Zabuza’s inevitable return. He bluntly told them that they had not yet learned to control their chakra properly.
To fix this, Kakashi taught them how to focus chakra into the soles of their feet. He demonstrated the technique by effortlessly walking up the vertical trunk of a tall tree without using his hands. He explained that mastering chakra control was the foundational key to learning any advanced jutsu.
Team 7 immediately began practicing focusing their chakra to climb the trees. Naruto channeled too little chakra, failing to stick to the bark and plummeting back to the ground.
Sasuke, on the other hand, channeled too much; the bark splintered and cracked under his feet, sending him falling as well. Sakura, however, flawlessly walked up the tree on her very first attempt, earning high praise from Kakashi.
4. Haku Strikes Gato
At a remote hideout, Gato and two of his armed thugs approached Zabuza, who was resting in bed with Haku dutifully keeping watch by his side. Gato mocked the assassin’s terrifying moniker, “Demon Zabuza,” ridiculing his failure to assassinate Tazuna. He then issued a stern warning: if they failed a second time, they would be permanently cut from his payroll.
The moment Gato reached out to touch Zabuza, Haku moved in a blur, violently snapping the tycoon’s arm. Gato’s two bodyguards reacted instantly, drawing their blades to strike. However, Haku effortlessly disarmed them both, seizing their swords and coldly ordering Gato to leave. Terrified and humiliated, Gato and his men quickly retreated.
