Boruto Uzumaki is a formidable shinobi-in-training and the son of the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. Even during his Academy days, Boruto was highly proficient in Taijutsu and Ninjutsu. Earning perfect marks across all subjects, he was quickly labeled a genius by his peers and instructors.
He was equally unmatched when it came to causing trouble, earning a grudging respect even from Konohamaru. According to his mentor, if the true measure of a great Hokage was the sheer volume of mischief they caused, Boruto had the potential to vastly outshine his father.
Yet, for all his Academy accolades, Boruto has one glaring weakness: he is a spectacularly terrible artist.
Take, for instance, the time Mitsuki and his fellow synthetic human, Seikei, left for Iwagakure. During their journey, Seikei sketched a house in the dirt. When the pursuit team—consisting of Shikamaru, Sarada, and Boruto—stumbled upon the drawing, Boruto immediately scoffed, calling it a child’s doodle.
Sarada agreed, but she didn’t miss the opportunity to jab at him, noting that if Boruto had drawn it, the result wouldn’t look much different. Despite his utter lack of talent, Boruto remains blissfully overconfident in his artistic skills.
Here are four of Boruto’s most disastrous drawings:
1. Shino Possessed by the Ghost
During the Ghost incidents in the Hidden Leaf Village, Boruto was the only one who could see the dark entities. This was thanks to his Jougan, an ocular jutsu that activated involuntarily, allowing him to see those who had been possessed by the Ghost’s shadow.
When their Academy instructor, Shino Aburame, was possessed and lost control of his body, Shikadai asked Boruto how he was able to identify the victims. Attempting to explain what he had seen enveloping their teacher, Boruto sketched the entity on a piece of paper. Instead of understanding the situation, Shikadai was left in pure shock—the drawing was hideously ugly and completely defied expectations.
2. The Ghost’s True Form
This story began when Sugire was secretly stalking Sumire. Using *Kakunin no Jutsu*—a cloaking technique that rendered him completely invisible—he effortlessly trailed the girl he liked wherever she went.
However, Sarada and Chocho eventually caught onto his scheme. Upon learning that he was stalking Sumire out of affection, Chocho encouraged Sugire to confess his feelings, convincing him that he actually had a shot. Unfortunately, Sumire rejected him.
Consumed by the negative energy of his unrequited love, Sugire was possessed by the Ghost. By the next day, his stalking had dangerously escalated, culminating in Sumire’s kidnapping. Thanks to his Jougan, Boruto was able to perceive the true form of the Ghost chakra possessing him.
After the incident was resolved, Boruto tried to tell Mitsuki and Shikadai about the monstrous chakra entity he had seen. To make his explanation clearer, he drew the monster on paper. Once again, his friends were simply appalled; Boruto’s sketch was violently ugly and impossible to decipher.
3. Chocho
This incident started when Sai was brought in as a special guest art instructor at the Academy. Shino explained to the class that shinobi often need to draw maps or targets in the field, meaning poor drawing skills could become a dangerous liability on a mission. Thus, Sai was tasked with evaluating the students’ artistic abilities.
Sai asked the students to draw a portrait using Chocho as a live model. Boruto finished his sketch early and proudly displayed his work. Inojin, however, immediately mocked the result. He called it a child’s scribble and confidently declared that he could draw a far better portrait using only his feet.
4. Remon
This saga began when a woman named Remon arrived in the Hidden Leaf Village, fleeing from a group of massive men. In her panic, she tripped and tumbled down a flight of stairs. Fortunately, Konohamaru caught her just in time and whisked her away from her pursuers.
As a token of her gratitude, Remon wanted to repay Konohamaru and Boruto. Boruto invited her to Lightning Burger, where he ordered the newest menu item—an extra-sour lemon burger—for the three of them to share. While Boruto and Remon happily devoured theirs, Konohamaru choked on the intense sourness. Remon kindly lent him her handkerchief to cover his coughing fit.
Shortly after, her massive pursuers—who turned out to be her bodyguards—arrived and escorted her back to Daidai Village.
Because they still had her handkerchief, Boruto and Konohamaru traveled to Daidai Village to return it. Instead of a simple drop-off, the visit dragged them into a crisis involving Soma, a memory-devouring monster. During their battle against Kankitsu, a man controlled by Soma, Boruto’s memories were temporarily wiped.
Sometime later, Team 7 (Boruto, Mitsuki, and Sarada) visited Lightning Burger. Boruto felt strangely out of the loop regarding the extra-sour lemon burger, which was highly unusual given his obsession with the restaurant’s new releases. Sarada found it equally odd. When Boruto finally took a bite, a wave of déjà vu hit him—he felt absolutely certain he had eaten this before with someone else.
To jog his memory, Boruto decided to sketch the person he vaguely remembered—Remon—and showed the paper to Mitsuki and Sarada to see if they recognized her. Rather than identifying the mystery woman, his teammates were just horrified by how atrociously ugly Boruto’s drawing was.
