Paralyzed by fear, Inari hesitated to jump in and save it—until Akane callously shoved him into the water as well. Fortunately, the dog knew how to swim and paddled to safety, but Inari, who could not swim, began to drown.

When Inari finally opened his eyes, he found Kaiza grilling a fish, which the man warmly offered to the boy. Kaiza told him that he had already taught those three bullies a lesson. Tazuna explained that from that day forward, Inari and Kaiza became inseparable, sharing a bond as tight as blood. This closeness likely stemmed from the fact that Inari’s biological father had passed away before the boy could ever truly know him. Shortly after, Kaiza married Inari’s mother, Tsunami.

However, everything changed when Gato and his thugs invaded the Land of Waves. They took Kaiza hostage at their hideout and beat him mercilessly. Gato despised Kaiza for stepping up as a symbol of hope and saving the Buntar district from the collapsed dike.

In ruthless retaliation, Gato organized a public execution, forcing the townspeople to watch. Kaiza’s battered, helpless body was tied to a wooden cross. Paralyzed by grief, Inari could only weep as he watched Gato’s men brutally murder his stepfather.
