1. The Tsuchinoko’s Toxic Threat
As Okarun and Jiji locked their legs in a fierce stalemate, Okarun was suddenly thrown backward toward Momo, who stood behind him. Jiji instantly kicked the sphere of negative energy at him, but Okarun swiftly grabbed Momo and sprinted away, narrowly dodging the attack. Moving at blinding speed, he hoisted Momo onto his back and bounded out of the lower ruins, scaling the massive stack of buried houses to reach higher ground.
As they climbed, Okarun explained the terrifying reality of their situation. The Tsuchinoko, currently burrowed deep underground, was rapidly flooding the entire subterranean cavern with lethal toxins. He revealed that this was the signature ability of the Mongolian Death Worm: it could discharge massive electrical shocks and secrete deadly venom to paralyze its prey.
Okarun grimly warned Momo that if they didn’t escape the cavern immediately, they would both die from inhaling the poisoned air. However, Momo looked up and felt her hope plummet—the surface was impossibly high, and they were trapped far too deep underground.
2. Momo Returns to the Surface
Okarun assured Momo he could get her back to the surface. He instructed her to find a rope or anything else she could use to pull him, Jiji, and the Turbo Granny up once she got there. Momo anxiously asked how he planned to handle Jiji, who was still fully possessed by the Evil Eye. Okarun confidently promised he would break the entity’s hold and bring Jiji back to his senses.
Lying flat on his back, the transformed Okarun hoisted a heavy sofa using his legs. Momo crouched atop the cushion, bracing herself to be launched upward. Okarun told her he was going to kick the sofa with everything he had to rocket her toward the surface.
With explosive force, Okarun launched the sofa into the air. Mid-flight, Momo channeled her esper energy into her feet, creating a rocket-like thrust that propelled her even higher. Extending her aura hands, she desperately grabbed the edge of the floor in Jiji’s talisman room. Pulling herself up, Momo finally made it back to the surface.
3. The Worm’s Suicidal Cycle
Back inside Jiji’s house, Momo scrambled to find a way to pull the others up. She tore the curtains off the windows, knotting them together to create a makeshift rope, and hurled it down the hole. To her horror, it wasn’t nearly long enough to reach the bottom of the deep cavern.
Frustration boiled over as Momo desperately brainstormed a way to neutralize the poison, defeat the giant worm, and save her friends trapped below. Suddenly, a childhood memory of her and Jiji playing with an earthworm flashed into her mind.
Back then, Jiji had asked her if she knew why worms sometimes crawled out of the dirt. He explained that worms breathe through their skin. The day after a heavy rain, the soil floods, drastically cutting off their oxygen supply.
To keep from drowning, the worms are forced to the surface. However, if they stay out too long under the scorching sun, their bodies dry out and they die. Jiji had called this tragic chain of events the “worm’s suicidal cycle.”
4. Evil Eye Batters Okarun
The Evil Eye cornered Okarun, boldly declaring his intent to slaughter him. Okarun immediately bolted, but the Evil Eye kicked the sphere of negative energy after him. The dark orb relentlessly tracked Okarun, tailing his every move.
Okarun narrowly dodged a sudden, blindingly fast punch from the Evil Eye, but the distraction allowed the negative energy sphere to slam directly into his face, leaving him heavily disoriented. Capitalizing on the opening, the Evil Eye closed the distance and drove a brutal punch into Okarun’s stomach, dropping him to the ground. As Okarun lay on the dirt, the Evil Eye threw another heavy strike, but Okarun rolled out of the way just in time.
The Evil Eye voiced his sheer irritation that Okarun kept running away. But suddenly, Jiji’s nose began to bleed. The Evil Eye instantly realized the cause: the Tsuchinoko was rapidly saturating the cavern with lethal toxins.
Furious, the Evil Eye hurled the negative energy sphere directly at Okarun. Upon impact, the orb expanded into a small, suffocating haunted house, trapping Okarun inside. Within the claustrophobic walls, Okarun could physically feel the agonizing souls of the sacrificial victims—the raw fuel powering the Evil Eye’s negative energy.
Okarun fought desperately to break out, kicking and shoving, but the cursed walls were impossibly sturdy. Suddenly, the Evil Eye stepped inside the construct and immediately punched Okarun in the face. Trapped and overwhelmed, Okarun could do nothing but endure a relentless, brutal beating. The Evil Eye visibly reveled in every single strike.
5. The Tsuchinoko Surfaces
Up in the kitchen, Momo turned on the gas stove and set a book on fire. The flames quickly spread, igniting a massive house fire. Running outside, Momo frantically screamed for help, begging the neighbors to call the fire department.
Shortly after, firefighters arrived. They quickly deployed their hoses, blasting high-pressure water onto Jiji’s burning house as a crowd of curious onlookers gathered. However, local police officers grew suspicious of Momo. Accusing her of arson, they ordered her into their patrol car for questioning.
Panic set in as Momo noticed the sun was beginning to set. Two officers grabbed her arms, forcefully marching her toward the cruiser. Furious and desperate, Momo thrashed wildly, screaming at the firefighters that the house didn’t matter anymore—she begged them to spray all their water directly onto the ground.
Suddenly, a violent tremor shook the area. The crowd braced themselves, assuming it was a massive earthquake. As the ground began to crack and splinter, the officers let go of Momo, yelling at the panicked civilians to stay calm and stay put until the shaking stopped.
Momo, however, waited in breathless anticipation, knowing her plan was working. The firefighters’ water had seeped deep into the subterranean cavern, flooding the soil just enough to force the Tsuchinoko out. Exactly as she had hoped, the colossal monster finally breached the surface, sending the terrified crowd fleeing in absolute panic.
6. Okarun Defeats the Evil Eye
While thoroughly enjoying his one-sided beatdown of Okarun, the Evil Eye casually mentioned that once he was finished here, he was going to brutally beat Momo next. Hearing that, Okarun’s demeanor instantly shifted. He shot his hand forward, clamping it tightly over the Evil Eye’s mouth, silencing the entity and halting his movements entirely.
Okarun coldly stated that the Evil Eye had committed three unforgivable sins. First, he had dared to hurt Momo. Second, he had deeply wounded Jiji’s heart—because Jiji would never willingly use his own body to hurt Momo. Staring dead into his opponent’s eyes, Okarun demanded the Evil Eye relinquish control of Jiji’s body immediately.
The Evil Eye threw another punch at Okarun’s face, but Okarun effortlessly dodged it by swiftly dropping his upper body backward.
Dropping into a deep crouch, Okarun exploded upward, delivering a devastating double-fisted uppercut squarely to the Evil Eye’s jaw, heavily staggering him. Without missing a beat, Okarun crouched again and launched a second, thunderous double-punch to the face, launching his opponent high into the air.
Inside the purple haunted house, the Evil Eye’s body hung suspended right above Okarun’s head. Entering a state of pure, brutal rage, Okarun unleashed a relentless, rapid-fire barrage of punches from below, battering Jiji’s possessed body without mercy. The sheer concussive force of the impacts shattered the cursed house into pieces. Finally, the Evil Eye was launched completely out of the construct, crashing heavily into the dirt, out cold.
Standing over him, Okarun stated the Evil Eye’s third and final sin: he had made him furious. A second later, Okarun’s transformation wore off, and he collapsed onto the ground, utterly exhausted.
7. Okarun & The Turbo Granny Trapped
As Okarun dragged Jiji’s unconscious body to a safe spot, he heard the Turbo Granny screaming. He rushed toward the sound, finding her immobilized on the floor, hopelessly trapped in the thick, viscous slime left behind by the Tsuchinoko.
To save her, Okarun carefully laid down wooden planks, creating a makeshift path to reach her without touching the slime. Grabbing hold of the cat doll, he pulled with all his might. He managed to yank her free, but the sudden release of tension caused him to slip. Both Okarun and the Turbo Granny tumbled directly into the sticky pool, hopelessly trapped.
The Turbo Granny violently cursed Okarun’s stupidity, screaming at him to transform so they could break free. Okarun grimly admitted he had already hit his daily limit of two transformations; he couldn’t do it again.
Their only hope now was Momo, praying she would find a way to save them.
8. The Death of the Tsuchinoko
Momo cheered in triumph—the sun hadn’t fully set, and its harsh rays were blasting directly onto the Tsuchinoko. She knew the giant worm’s fatal weakness was sunlight. However, her victory was cut short when the Tsuchinoko desperately slithered behind the burning ruins of Jiji’s house, using the debris to block the sun.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Momo used her aura hands to physically lift a massive firetruck into the air. She hurled the heavy vehicle directly into the remains of Jiji’s house, utterly obliterating whatever cover was left.
Fully exposed to the scorching sun, the Tsuchinoko’s skin rapidly dried out and cracked. The colossal beast collapsed, lying lifeless on the dirt. Momo stared in disbelief—she hadn’t expected it to be defeated so easily just by a little sunlight.
9. The Volcano Erupts
Momo cautiously kicked the Tsuchinoko’s massive corpse to make sure it was actually dead. Suddenly, the body twitched. Momo scrambled backward, but to her absolute shock, the dead monster’s mouth forced itself open, violently vomiting out all ten members of the Kito family it had previously swallowed.
Momo was stunned to see them all still alive. Naki, absolutely furious, began viciously screaming at Momo for daring to kill the Tsuchinoko. Momo calmly replied that she didn’t have time to deal with their nonsense; she needed to rescue Okarun, Jiji, and the Turbo Granny trapped underground.
But before she could take a single step, a genuine, massive earthquake struck. The entire village shook violently. A rabid Naki pointed a shaking finger at Momo, blaming her entirely for killing the Tsuchinoko and bringing ruin upon them. A second later, the volcano looming over the village—which had been dormant for 200 years—violently erupted, sending a terrifying pillar of ash and fire into the sky, leaving Momo and the entire Kito family paralyzed in horror.
