1. About Haku
Kakashi ordered Sakura to stop cheering for Naruto and Sasuke. He explained that the two were still novice shinobi who lacked the necessary ruthlessness to kill an enemy. Haku, on the other hand, was an experienced assassin capable of acting without a single shred of hesitation.
Kakashi reached up to uncover his Sharingan, but Zabuza moved in a blur, driving a kunai into Kakashi’s hand to stop him from lifting his Konoha headband. Zabuza coldly declared that even if Kakashi managed to defeat him, he would never be able to defeat Haku.
Zabuza revealed that he had rigorously trained Haku since childhood, passing down every combat technique he knew. Haku had even perfected his own Kekkei Genkai. As a result of this brutal upbringing, Haku had grown into a merciless shinobi who never failed to execute a mission.
2. Sasuke’s Flame Strikes True
Ignoring his wounded hand, Kakashi uncovered his Sharingan and challenged Zabuza to fight. Zabuza immediately cast his thick mist jutsu and vanished from sight. Kakashi ordered Sakura to stay close to Tazuna, and she quickly took up a vigilant defensive stance to guard the bridge builder.
Inside the dome of Ice Mirrors, Naruto used his Kage Bunshin (Shadow Clones) to hunt for Haku’s real body by attacking every reflection simultaneously. Haku moved with blinding speed, darting from mirror to mirror while striking down every single clone.
However, spotting a brief opening in the chaos, Sasuke unleashed a blast of fire from his mouth, successfully scorching Haku’s pants. He smirked in satisfaction; his eyes were finally starting to track Haku’s incredible speed.
3. Zabuza’s Expertise
Elsewhere on the bridge, Kakashi realized that Zabuza’s mist had grown too dense, severely obscuring his vision. However, he was confident that Zabuza was suffering from the exact same disadvantage.
Suddenly, a volley of shuriken shot toward Kakashi out of the fog, though he quickly deflected them with a kunai. Kakashi was startled when Zabuza materialized right behind him with his eyes completely shut, only to vanish back into the mist a second later.
Kakashi wondered why the assassin had closed his eyes. Zabuza’s voice echoed through the fog, explaining that he was a master of the Silent Killing technique. He could pinpoint his opponent’s exact location based solely on sound, rendering his eyesight completely unnecessary.
4. Zabuza Slashes Kakashi
Sasuke yelled for Naruto to make a run for the outside of the Ice Mirrors. Haku instantly launched himself from one of the panels, gliding through the air to intercept the fleeing boy.
Sasuke unleashed a fire jutsu to stop him, but Haku agilely twisted his body mid-air to evade the flames. He then darted forward, cutting Naruto off just as he reached the edge of the mirrors, and delivered a punishing kick. Their escape plan had failed.
Meanwhile, Kakashi tried to predict where Zabuza would strike next. His instincts were dead on—Zabuza suddenly materialized right behind Tazuna, slipping past Sakura’s guard. Zabuza swung his massive sword to cleave the bridge builder in two, but Kakashi threw himself in the way. Taking the brunt of the attack, Kakashi suffered a deep, bloody slash to the stomach from Zabuza’s blade.
