She revealed that the Evil Eye’s stare possessed the exact same lethal power as the Tsuchinoko’s psychic wave: the ability to compel anyone who met its gaze to commit suicide.
The Turbo Granny explained that right now, the sheer force of the Evil Eye’s stare and the Tsuchinoko’s psychic wave were clashing in a deadlocked stalemate, neutralizing each other’s effects. That was the only reason Okarun and Momo had regained their senses.
Seizing the opening, Okarun transformed and dashed forward at blinding speed. He launched a devastating headbutt, cleanly decapitating the Tsuchinoko. In response, the Evil Eye descended, folding its legs over Jiji’s shoulders like a child getting a piggyback ride. Jiji kept running. From behind, the Evil Eye slowly lowered its head until their faces were inches apart. It stared directly into Jiji’s eyes with a piercing, chilling gaze.
3. The Evil Eye’s Past
The Evil Eye flooded Jiji’s mind with memories from its human life. Once, he was a boy named Madun, locked away in a filthy, barred shack. Looking through a small, grated window, Madun watched three boys his age happily dancing and playing in the distance. All alone, Madun danced by himself, passionately mimicking their movements.
When the volcano finally erupted, the Kito family held their dark festival. They dragged Madun out, tying him to a pillar at the sacrificial altar. Madun died in excruciating agony, burned alive as molten lava flowed directly onto the altar.
Following his horrific death, Madun rose as a vengeful spirit, tethering himself to a house built on the very site of the old altar. Over the years, he watched the same tragedy repeat: children living in the house repeatedly orphaned after their parents abruptly committed suicide. Slowly, Madun realized the true cause was the bizarre sonic wave constantly radiating from deep underground.
Decades later, Naki arrived at the house with an orphaned boy named Dadang, intending to offer him as a sacrifice to the Tsuchinoko. Naki coldly ordered Juichi and Juhiko to bury the house entirely—with Dadang still inside.
After the house was buried, Madun desperately tried to free Dadang, who was bound tightly in cloth and strapped to a chair, crying in absolute terror. But Madun was only a spirit; his ethereal hands simply passed through the cloth. He couldn’t save him.
Consumed by profound, searing rage, Madun swore vengeance against the Kito family for murdering him and so many other innocent children. That endless hatred warped Madun’s soul, transforming him into a vicious yokai. Driven to peak despair, Madun forcefully made Dadang look into his eyes, violently fusing their souls together into the terrifying entity now known as the Evil Eye.
4. Jiji Meets the Evil Eye
Momo threw an aura hand, trying to forcefully yank the Evil Eye off Jiji’s shoulders. But the entity clung on so tightly it was impossible to pry off. Jiji calmly told Momo that the Evil Eye wasn’t an evil spirit at all. He explained that the ghost had been fighting a solitary, desperate war against the Kito family for decades.
Having experienced Madun’s tragic memories, Jiji made a firm decision: he needed to visit the shack where Madun’s body lay. Still carrying the Evil Eye on his back, Jiji sprinted down through the layers of buried architecture, descending to the very bottom of the cavern. Following closely, Momo was shocked by the sheer scale of the ruins—dozens of ancient houses from different eras all stacked on top of each other.
Finally, Jiji reached the ancient shack where Madun had been imprisoned while alive. Inside, he found Madun’s skeletal remains. Sitting rigidly on a chair, the skull bore shockingly long, flowing white hair.
5. The Turbo Granny’s Luck
The Turbo Granny sharply warned Jiji not to step too close to Madun’s corpse, scolding him for showing sympathy to a dangerous, violent yokai. As the Evil Eye floated in the air, wrapping its arms around Jiji in a ghostly embrace, Jiji firmly stated that the skeleton had once belonged to a genuinely good person. The Turbo Granny cursed at him, calling him a naive fool who had no idea what he was messing with.
Suddenly, from outside the shack, the Tsuchinoko unleashed a devastating attack. Its body emitted a blinding yellow flash of electricity, shocking Okarun and Jiji so violently they collapsed. The monster then spewed a flood of thick, viscous slime into the shack.
Momo yelled, “Where’s your good luck now, Turbo Granny?!”

6. Jiji Will Keep the Evil Eye Company
Still staring at Madun’s skeleton, Jiji was suddenly pulled into a bizarre mental dimension. Before him sat Madun, alive and human, lounging lazily inside his barred cage. Jiji calmly sat down across from him.

Furthermore, he channeled that pure hatred and agonizing suffering into a dense sphere of negative energy.
