1. Buggy Hates Shanks
A flashback to Buggy and Shanks’s past was revealed. During a clash between pirate crews, Buggy defeated an enemy combatant and discovered a treasure map hidden inside the man’s clothes. He was overjoyed to learn that the treasure was buried at the bottom of the ocean.
That night, overflowing with excitement, Buggy sat alone at the edge of the ship. His left hand held a Devil Fruit, while his right gripped the treasure map. He envisioned a clear future: he would sell the Devil Fruit for hundreds of millions of Berries, unearth a massive fortune, and form his very own pirate crew.
Suddenly, Shanks approached him for a chat. Startled, Buggy hastily hid the Devil Fruit in his mouth, but accidentally swallowed it whole. Furious, he grabbed Shanks by the collar.
His panic deepened when he realized his treasure map had slipped from his grasp and fallen into the sea. Without thinking, Buggy dove into the water to retrieve it. However, having consumed a Devil Fruit, he lost his ability to swim and immediately began to sink. Seeing this, Shanks dove in right after him to save his life.
2. Buggy vs. Nami
Back in the present, Buggy told Luffy that because of Shanks, his youthful ambitions had been delayed for ten years, and he had permanently lost the treasure buried on the ocean floor.
Buggy then detached the upper half of his body, flying off to hunt down Nami, who was hauling away a sack of his treasure. However, Luffy swiftly kicked Buggy’s lower half—which was still standing right in front of him—squarely in the groin. Buggy collapsed in agony, failing to catch Nami.
Refusing to yield, Buggy prepared another attack. This time, he split his entire body into small pieces, sending them flying through the air to chase the terrified Nami.
But Luffy managed to catch one of Buggy’s floating feet and began tickling it. Unable to withstand the sensation, Buggy was distracted, allowing Nami to swing the heavy sack of treasure right at his face.
Buggy, however, caught the sack mid-swing. The two engaged in a desperate tug-of-war over the loot. Seeing this, Luffy stretched his leg out and kicked Buggy in the face, knocking him to the dirt. The sack spilled open, scattering treasure across the ground.
3. Nami’s Cleverness
Buggy scrambled back up, declaring that the fight wasn’t over. He attempted to pull all his scattered body parts back together.
Sensing an opportunity, Nami took advantage of the situation. Just as Buggy was about to reassemble himself, he suddenly reformed into a miniature, stunted version of himself.
It turned out Nami had swiftly tied up several of Buggy’s disconnected limbs, preventing them from reattaching. Buggy was stunned by her quick thinking. Wasting no time, Luffy delivered a devastating double punch that launched Buggy’s shrunken body flying helplessly into the sky.
Afterward, Nami asked Luffy to help her split the remaining treasure into two sacks so it would be easier to carry. She then handed the map to the Grand Line over to Luffy. In response, Luffy officially invited her to join his pirate crew. Without hesitation, Nami accepted.
4. Boodle Gives Thanks
The citizens of Orange Town began to gather. They demanded to know why their mayor was lying unconscious near Luffy and Nami. Unabashed, Luffy bluntly admitted that he was the one who had knocked Boodle out.
The townsfolk were furious. Luffy immediately bolted, carrying Zoro on his back, while Nami fled right behind him with the two sacks of treasure. Suddenly, Shushu appeared, blocking the angry mob from pursuing them. Thanks to the dog’s intervention, Luffy and his crew managed to escape.
Meanwhile, the citizens woke Boodle and informed him that the Buggy Pirates were gone. Groggy, Boodle asked, “Where are Luffy and the others?”
The crowd replied that the pirates had run away and evaded capture. Hearing this, Boodle quickly set the record straight, revealing that it was Luffy and his friends who had actually saved Orange Town.
Down at the docks, the mayor caught sight of Luffy, Nami, and Zoro sailing away in their small boat. He shouted out a heartfelt thank you, and Luffy beamed back at him with a wide smile.
A moment later, Boodle noticed a sack left behind on the edge of the pier.
On the boat, Nami was shocked, asking Luffy why he had abandoned a sack of treasure worth five million Berries. Casually, Luffy replied that he left it behind to help Boodle rebuild their town.
