When a devil possesses a human corpse, it becomes a Fiend. While Fiends usually maintain a human appearance, their minds are entirely controlled by the devil, leaving only distinct physical features on their heads as a warning.

Before joining the Devil Hunters, Power took in a stray cat named Meowy. One day, while the two were relaxing on a roof, Meowy was snatched by a giant Bat Devil. Gravely injured and missing an arm from a previous encounter with humans, the Bat Devil had taken refuge in a nearby house.
Desperate to regenerate its severed limb, the Bat Devil struck a deal with Power: it would return Meowy only if she brought it a human to eat.
Power betrayed Denji, knocking him unconscious and offering him up as a meal. After drinking Denji’s blood, the Bat Devil successfully regenerated its arm. However, the devil broke its promise. Instead of returning Meowy, it swallowed the cat whole and snatched Power up to eat her, too.
Fortunately, Denji harbored no grudges. He transformed into Chainsaw Man and engaged the Bat Devil in a brutal fight. Despite the devil’s fierce resistance, Chainsaw Man emerged victorious. Using the chainsaws on his arms, Denji ripped open the Bat Devil’s stomach, ensuring Power and Meowy were not digested and ultimately saving both of their lives.
Denji deeply sympathized with Power. He couldn’t stomach the thought of her going to sleep shattered by the knowledge that her cat had been eaten. Aki reminded him that devils and Fiends inherently want humans dead. Furthermore, Aki had found Denji’s blood splattered outside the Bat Devil’s hideout, leading him to suspect that Power had attacked Denji.
Despite barely knowing each other as partners, Denji had willingly risked his life to help Power save Meowy. In return, Power had ruthlessly set him up, striking him over the head until he bled out, and trading his unconscious body to the Bat Devil.
Yet, Denji refused to hold it against her. When Aki accused Power of betrayal, Denji flatly denied it, insisting that Power was a “good girl.”
Had Denji told the truth, Power would have been stripped of her Devil Hunter status and hunted down for execution. Denji himself would have faced severe consequences, including potential expulsion, if his lie was ever exposed.
Aki chose to trust Denji’s word. He went to Power, who was being kept under guard by Himeno as a prime suspect, and removed her handcuffs.
3. Denji Spares Power for Her Cowardice
Chaos erupted when Katana Man and Akane ambushed Denji, Aki, Himeno, and Power over a bowl of ramen. The devastating surprise attack left Denji dying, Aki incapacitated, and Himeno dead.
Amidst the carnage, Power quietly slipped away unnoticed by both friend and foe. Completely absent from the bloodbath, she escaped without a single scratch.
Later, Denji and Power visited a recovering Aki in the hospital. Eager to cover up her cowardice, Power quickly turned off the television broadcasting the news of the shootout between the Devil Hunters and the devil-aligned terrorists. Acting entirely unfazed, she sat down next to Denji, who was quietly reading manga and eating an apple.
The tension snapped when Denji blocked her from grabbing a slice of his apple, sending Power into a tantrum. Denji fully intended to punish her for abandoning them during the ambush. A petty argument broke out. Power lied, claiming she had simply gotten hungry mid-fight and decided to go home, but Denji saw right through the excuse.
Despite his initial resolve to withhold the apple as punishment, Denji eventually gave in and handed it to her. His frustration with her worst traits was ultimately eclipsed by his genuine care for his partner.
4. Denji Stops Power from Sabotaging Their Mission
When Special Division 4 was assigned to capture Katana Man and Akane, they were given a harsh ultimatum: fail the mission, and the division would be disbanded. Both Denji and Power were at immediate risk of losing their livelihoods as Devil Hunters.
During the operation, Denji was deeply unsettled to find Power casually snacking on the severed flesh of a zombie while riding an elevator. To Power, meat was just meat, whether it came from an animal or a human corpse.
Appalled, Denji instantly scolded her, reminding her that their objective was to capture Katana Man, not feast on zombies. He sternly warned her against trying to eat Katana Man once they caught him.
Denji’s anger was entirely justified, given Power’s total lack of discrimination when it came to her diet. If she actually gave in to her impulses and ate Katana Man, they wouldn’t just be fired—they risked being executed as rogue devils by their strict mentor, Kishibe, who was merciless and completely intolerant of such insubordination.
