1. Zoro Agrees to Join Luffy’s Crew
Morgan informed his troops that Luffy was a Devil Fruit user, possessing powers that defied reason. Meanwhile, Luffy struggled to untie the thick ropes binding Zoro to the wooden cross. Marine soldiers charged forward, swords drawn, ready to swarm Luffy, Coby, and Zoro.
Amidst the desperate chaos, Zoro told Luffy to stop bothering with the ropes and demanded he hand over his three swords.
In the blink of an eye, Zoro shattered his bonds. Without a single backward glance, he expertly wielded all three blades to block the sheer onslaught of Marine swords striking from behind him.
In that epic moment, Zoro swore a breathtaking oath to Luffy. He agreed to join the pirate crew, ally against the Marines, and submit to his new captain’s authority.
However, Zoro made one thing fiercely clear: he would never abandon his personal ambition to become the world’s greatest swordsman. If Luffy ever compromised that dream, Zoro firmly warned that he would end Luffy’s life with his own blade. Unfazed, Luffy accepted the terms.
2. Luffy & Zoro Defeat Morgan
Zoro was busy holding back the Marines when Luffy yelled for him to duck. Stretching his leg out wide, Luffy swept away the entire squad attacking Zoro from behind.
Luffy and Captain Morgan then faced off. Deftly dodging Morgan’s axe-hand strike, Luffy launched a brutal kick to his face, sending the captain crashing to the dirt. Desperate, Helmeppo took Coby hostage, pressing a pistol to him and threatening to shoot if Luffy didn’t stop beating his father.
Leaving Morgan behind, Luffy wound up a punch aimed squarely at Helmeppo. But Morgan had staggered to his feet behind Luffy, raising his axe-hand for a lethal strike. In one swift motion, Luffy stretched his arm and knocked Helmeppo out cold.
Before Morgan’s blade could fall on Luffy, Zoro intercepted. With a lightning-fast strike, he slashed Morgan, bringing the captain down for good. To their surprise, the surrounding Marines erupted in cheers, celebrating Luffy and Zoro’s victory over their tyrant.
3. The Marines Give Thanks
At Atun’s tavern, Luffy, Zoro, and Coby happily devoured a free meal prepared by Rika and Atun. Soon, a Marine squad led by Stewie approached their table.
Stewie confessed they had not reported the pirates to Marine Headquarters, feeling deeply indebted to Luffy and Zoro. The duo had liberated the soldiers and the citizens of Shells Town from Morgan, who had viciously oppressed his own men and abused his power to extort illegal taxes.
Stewie then urged Luffy and Zoro to leave the island immediately. As they prepared to exit the tavern, Stewie asked why Luffy was abandoning his companion, Coby.
Luffy casually explained that he and Coby had only been friends for a short time, then blatantly revealed that Coby had spent the last two years working as a subordinate for the Alvida Pirates.
4. Luffy & Coby’s Farewell
Furious that Luffy had exposed his dark past, Coby punched him square in the face. Luffy retaliated, mercilessly beating the boy. Stewie ordered Luffy to stop and demanded he leave at once. Sprawled on the floor, Coby suddenly realized what Luffy had done: he had staged the fight to convince the Marines they were truly enemies.
Once Zoro and Luffy had gone, Coby climbed to his feet and formally asked Stewie to let him join the Marines. Udin warned Stewie to be cautious, suspecting Coby might be a pirate spy, but Stewie accepted him into their ranks anyway.
Down at the docks, Coby and the Marine garrison saw Luffy and Zoro off as they set sail in their small boat. As they drifted away, Luffy waved back, hoping he would cross paths with Coby again someday.
